yet another doctor appointment with no changes

So we had another appointment. No changes from last week. I even told Guy that it was sad to drive to a doctor an hour away to hear that there are no changes. The doctor did say that if we are still pregnant next Monday, we will schedule an induction for Wednesday. So, only 8 days until Gabe comes at the most. Send us labor vibes, but not until after Thursday since Mabry has a field trip tomorrow, trick or treating Wednesday, and Girl Scouts on Thursday and I don't want her to miss anything. Talk to you soon when we know more.

Gabe's Christening

Just thought I would go on and let everyone know that we are planning to christen Gabe on December 30th at Christ Episcopal Church in Holly Springs. We will be having the christening in the early afternoon (one-ish) as it will not be a part of the regular service. We still have to make arrangements for the gathering after the event and will let you know if anything changes and when everything is firmly planned. Please try to be there to share our special day!!!

Another doctor update

So, it was a dark and stormy day. My allergies are going haywire causing lots of headaches (hopefully the rain will wash away the ragweed). Guy has a little cold and played hookie from work as well. I woke up at four this morning and knocked out two more weeks of lessons for my government class. So now I am planned through Thanksgiving. David and Louise brought up the camper yesterday. Louise will be arriving after church on Sunday to start her extended stay with us. I have been having lots of contractions (yes, the real ones!! not the fake Braxton Hicks ones!). Of course, they amounted to diddly squat. The doctor checked today. I am measuring 35 weeks (so at least he has dropped a little). I am still 1 cm dilated. My cervix is still long and high, but he could feel the baby's head (progress). He told us that we would not be having a baby today (ya think?). Guy is under the impression that Gabe will be here this week according to what he heard the doctor say. I only heard him say that he will be here before Mabry's sixth birthday (November 14th). Thank God! Anyway, we came home and had a couple of presents waiting on us. Here is a picture of Mabry with the travel system from Tom and Theresa (luckily, the cats haven't discovered it although Mabry's baby dolls have). Here is also a picture of Mabry with the pack and play that we got with a generous gift card from Ernie, Telithia, Donna, and Chris. Thanks to Ellen and Louise again for all the baby gear and clothes. Also, we want to thank Guy's professor, Dr. Monroe, for all the baby clothes that she sent us. We would be in a hard spot without friends and family. Anyway, send good labor vibrations this way. Tell Gabe that it is time to vacate the premises. I have had the joy for a year of getting to know my son. It is now time for him to meet his dad and big sister. Only four days left in the poll!! Don't forget to vote (thanks to all of you for your optimism)

As Seen On TV closing

After 10 and a half years, I am sorry to tell all of you that the video store that Robert founded is closing. It is the end of an era in Oxford. I am sad to see it go since it holds so many memories, but at the same time, a stand alone store has a hard time competing in this day and age. Guy and I are going to Oxford on Monday for a baby doctor appointment. We will be going by the store to pick up a few things that belong to myself or Mabry for the future. Mom has suggested that the wedding gown that I have stored at the store for 10 years be sold. It has a lot of sentimental value, but I don't think that Mabry will want to use it in 20 or so years. What do you think? Anyway, keep the employees in your thoughts as they embark out to find new careers.

doctor appointment update

It has taken me a couple of days, but here is the update on the Gabe front. I have not dropped significantly. I am dilated 1 cm and barely effaced. We will not have a baby this week. Neither Guy nor I are sleeping well. I am getting up every hour and a half to pee. Guy claims that I groan all night (I think I only do it when rolling over). My lower back hurts enough that heating pads and ben gay don't cut it well enough, but the couch is a lifesend. Guy's work is going okay. My kids are e-mailing me and want me back at work (too bad--see ya in January). I am less irritable with Mabry. I think it is because I am not working myself to exhaustion every day. Anyway, someone remind my husband that this is not vacation--it is leave. I have done a lot of work from home for it to be a vacation. Hopefully, Monday we will have incredible news to report after the next doctor's appointment. By the way, did I tell you that I am suspicious that the doctor only told me that I was dilating and effacing since he knows how tired I am of being pregnant?

Last Day of Work for Me

As most of you know, I am starting my maternity leave today. I will be taking 12 weeks of leave from work if you count the holiday weeks. Of course, I will be working during that time--planning lessons, grading papers, hopefully, taking care of a new baby soon, and taking care of my older babies. We should be having a christening December 30 with Guy's stepdad officiating. We will post where when it is confirmed. Anyway, have a relaxing and fun weekend! Roll Tide and Go Rebels!! (How can you lose when it's both of your favorite SEC teams?)

Long weekend

We are recovering from a long weekend. I took Friday off from work since I had woken up at 2 am and couldn't go back to sleep. We spent Saturday lounging around the house, doing basic chores, watching football (How bout those Rebels--yea, we know, probably the last win of the season), and reading. Sunday looked like it would be more of the same until Guy's mom called. We would up going to Southhaven to pick up some of Ethan's clothes and toys that he has outgrown (Thank you, Ellen). We enjoyed a nice dinner and came home. You would think that as pregnant and tired as I am constantly that I would have fallen asleep easily. Alas, not so. I don't know what it is about being pregnant and exhausted, but it is getting impossible to sleep. Not to mention, I tend to keep Guy awake by moving around too much and groaning every time I get leg cramps (every two minutes). Hopefully, the end is near and Gabe will make a debut soon! I think we will actually get more sleep once he arrives. By the way, looking forward to my last day of work on Friday!!!

Doctor, doctor and more doctors

Mom had her surgery today. Barry says that she is doing fine and the doctors will have her out of the bed tomorrow. Hopefully, she won't have a lot of pain and will recover quickly. I know Barry especially wants her to recover so that he won't be on a chicken pot pie diet for too long.
I also had an appointment today. Everything is going very clinically well. No surprises. Not much weight gain, measuring appropriately, heartbeat is good, etc. Had the Group B Strep test--yuck! Hopefully, the results will be negative. The doctor said that this pregnancy is so routine that I am not starting once a week visits yet. I see him in two weeks, and then we will go to the once a week gig. Also, we made a big decision this weekend. My original maternity leave date was going to be October 26th. About two weeks ago, we decided to move it to the 19th. After homecoming this weekend, I have decided that my last day of work until January will be October 12th. So only nine more days to go. This should get me through nine weeks exams without hurting my students too badly (the only bad pregnancy symptom so far--very irritable--ask Guy). Wish us luck! Only 5 weeks to go.
