Mabry's brilliant day
Mabry had a great big day. First, she got four (count 'em four) S +'s!!! Her handwriting is really improving. Then, at recess, Mabry decided to put her leg in the slats of the wooden fort and got it stuck. Mrs. Butler had to release her leg from where it was trapped. She has a wonderfully large bruise from her adventure. Mrs. Butler then suggested that Mabry not play on the fort for a while. Of course, Mabry ignored her and put her other foot in the wooden slats and got it stuck as well. A very wise person said the first time you make the mistake, you are ignorant--the second time, well, you're just stupid. I don't know if this bodes well for the future choices my child will make. Mabry also has another loose tooth that is driving us crazy. The second top tooth is hanging on barely. She refuses to let us pull it out no matter how we bribe her. I told her that for Halloween we don't have to find a costume. We will be able to buy her an orange posterboard and color her nose black and she can be a jack o'latern. Well, baby doctor appointment tomorrow, then Saturday--to the lake for a long weekend!!! Yeah! We'll update later.

Long weekend
Guy and I had a productive but long weekend. Guy's mother is in the process of remodeling her kitchen. We drove down to the Delta Saturday to visit and see the progress. Her kitchen makes me completely jealous. While there, we snagged Louise's old dishwasher. As soon as we can get a plumber, electrician, and handyman to the house, we'll be washing in style (no more dishpan hands for me!). We returned to the house after driving through the most beautiful rainstorm. The rainstorm was one of teh most beautiful ever seen since it has been about six weeks since we last had rain. The storm even made today's temperature completely bearable. Mabry got to play outside. I spent most of today doing typical weekend chores--paying bills, baking muffins for the week, ironing, laundry, and grading the dreaded papers. It only took four hours to grade seventy essays. Not too bad! Hopefully, the essays will get better as the year progresses and not take as much time. Anyway, until later!

Doctor Appointment

We went to our last monthly doctor appointment yesterday. After cursing the U-Haul that would only drive 45 mph on the highway making us late for the appointment, we got there to find out that the doctor was in emergency surgery for a mom from Batesville. Thankfully, she and her baby were alright. Because the doctor was behind by almost 2 hours, Ginger, the wonderful ultrasound tech, gave everyone who was waiting a free peek. Gabe is now measuring about 2 and a half pounds. When we first looked, we were a little surprised to find out that he is going to be a thumbsucker. He took the thumb out before we could get a picture. Guy swears that he is going to use the nasty fingernail polish and break him of the habit quickly. Ginger also said that Gabe's thigh bone measurement changes my due date to November 8, but based on his size and the fact that he's not a real skinny baby like he should be, she thinks he'll be here around Halloween. Do you not see why I love Ginger? I know the images are hard to see, but I tried to give you pictures of his little face. Talk to you later.

Mabry's First Day
Today is Mabry's first day of big kid kindergarten. She is extremely excited about learning to read and wearing her MA uniform!! Also, she has a new bookbag and lunchbox with her name on it. She thinks she will be the cutest girl at school. Mabry also found out that Manning (the boy she wants to marry) will be attending 3K and daycare with her. How could life be any better?

First Day of Real Work
So today is the day that we have been looking forward to (with dread?) all summer. No more naps after lunch when you just woke up at 11. No more aimless TV watching because you have nothing better to do. No more quick trips to Memphis or the lake since you have the time. That's right!!! School for Guy and I officially starts today with the kids!!! We'll update you on how it goes. Pray for us.

We're on fire!!!!

After a few slight delays, Ashland has been brought into the 21st century. We, yes, us!!, have at long last acquired DSL. Forgive us if we are slow to respond to cell phones. We might be glued to checking our e-mail and reading the sites that generally are impossible to get using dial up. A special shout out to Barry for the quick tech support. See you soon!!!!
P.S. just thought I would include a photo of Mabry at the Memphis Zoo over spring break (doesn't look too warm, does it?). She absolutely loved the panda exhibit--hence the Buddha.

Been a long time...
Nothing much to report. Have gotten the house fairly clean for work. Monday, we went back to school shopping for the whole family. It is odd that teachers also do the back to school shopping thing. Guy got himself an undated wardrobe at a fairly inexpensive cost thanks to the sales. Mabry was only able to get two pairs of shorts since the store was out of her size and she is required to wear a uniform this year. I still have to go and pick up her uniform shirts at the cost of --gasp!--$120 for six shirts. It seems like such a scam. We also all three got haircuts. This was my first haircut in almost a year and a half. Mabry and I now match since our hair comes right below our shoulders. Guy's hair is now short enough to wear a baseball cap again. Today, Mabry and I finally joined the Benton County public library. It is extremely tiny, but I was very excited to see a book I have been salivating to buy (The Devil in Junior League) on the shelf. Yes, it will probably be cheesy, but I am still excited. Mabry was excited because she got her first bookmark. It has a cat on it and she is convinced that it is the Cat in the Hat. The librarian was extremely helpful and nice. I am actually looking forward to using the library a lot more often. Tomorrow, I am going to help Guy set up his classroom and go make amends to Ms. Underwood since we just found out that she has been placed in Guy's former position at Holly High. I don't think she is very excited about it. Oh well. Anyway, til later.
