Mabry's Awesome Day

Mabry went with her friends Amanda and Lindsey to see Beauty and the Beast at the DeSoto Community Theater. Mabry had a wonderful time--thanks, Ms. Anita!! MAbry sang every song and her music teacher, Mr. Chris, played Lumiere. Since Mabry was gone all afternoon, I got to finish reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Thanks to my wonderful husband who stood in line at midnight to pick up my copy at Books a Million. It was a wonderful read and did not disappoint. Guy was anxious for the book too. It seems like all I heard for the last two hours of reading was, "What page are you on? Are you done yet?" I am through and now Guy can enjoy to his heart's content.

Cupcake guilt

So, we came home from Mabry's doctor appointment and bribed her to act as if she felt fine by telling her that we would make cupcakes. So, Mom baked and iced the cupcakes and Mabry got to decorate them. Cupcakes work wonders for soothing the child's damaged soul.

We did leave some without the flair for Guy since he prefers his cupcakes plain.

Today, we had another prenatal appointment. I got to drink the completely nasty orange Tang powdery drink and have my finger pricked to check for diabetes. Good news--I finally passed a test that I wanted to. Gabe is measuring about two and a half weeks larger than we are gestationally, so maybe we will get him here a little early. We heard the heartbeat which is always nice, but also got a surprise. Gabe had the hiccups! I remember feeling Mabry and her hiccups when I was pregnant, but have not noticed Gabe's yet.

Mabry is such a big girl!

Mabry has reached her first real big kid milestone. She got her "going to kindergarten" shots--all four of them. I was confused when I called the pediatrician two weeks ago for her back to school check up and was told they couldn't see her until mid-August--too late for school. We made an appointment at the local doctor's office and found out why today. The state of MIssissippi is out of the combination vaccination until sometime in August and all doctors are giving the vaccinations separately. Mabry took it like a champ and barely squirmed or cried. I've included a picture of her poor legs. You are also getting a picture of what Mabry has decided that Gabe's crib should be used for until he comes in November. Oh, we finally got the stove home to find out that our house is too old and is not up to electrical code for appliances. We had the most wonderful retired TVA electrician out to the house to rewire the outlet. We will have the inaugural meal tonight!! Can't wait. We would have eaten last night, but Guy and I went to a banquet hosted by the Mississippi Council for Economics Education and the Federal Reserve of St. Louis. I received two wonderful certificates of achievement for becoming one of 51 Master Teachers of Economics in the state. Yeah for me!! One of the certificates was even framed and signed by my big boss, Hank Bounds! Hope everyone has a great day. We go to the doctor tomorrow. Will update on how Gabe's doing later.

Family Reunited

We picked up Mabry yesterday in Sherman (Thanks, Ernie and Telitha!). It was as if she hadn't been gone except for one thing. She showed up missing not just her top tooth, but had lost another bottom tooth!! We have a busy day planned today. Guy is mowing the huge field below the house that is as thick as cotton since it rained every day for two weeks. I am going to try to see how the test scores were while Guy insists on getting the inspection sticker renewed on my car ( it only expired three years ago). After that, we are heading to Southaven to pick up the brand new stove!! I can't wait. When we went to the grocery store Saturday, all I could buy were things that could be baked since I am soooo anticipating the new stove. As some of you know, the oven went out on the stove three or four months ago, so we were reduced to stove top, microwave, and toaster oven cooking until the stove top went out too. All we have said to each other for the past couple of days is , "Ooh, lasagne will be so good. I can't wait to make cupcakes and brownies! Wow! We will finally be able to bake the turkey that I have been craving!" Do other people get this excited about cooking?

Missing Mabry

I had to go to Jackson for the AP Economics workshop at Millsaps all week. While it was very enlightening, I missed my family more than I realized. It was nice to get home to Guy on Friday and spend some quality alone time with him. We have gone out to eat several times since the stove decided to quit, and we decided to go see the new Harry Potter. What an excellent movie. Guy and I are both extremely anxious for next Saturday when the last book is released. We are going to go and pick up Mabry this afternoon. She stayed with the grandparents at the lake this week and had a lot of fun. She even called to say that she lost her top tooth. So now she is a snaggle tooth, and she got ten quarters from the Tooth Fairy! Gosh, there has been a lot of inflation since Guy and I were kids.
